If your going to buy a boat or a yacht here is a few tips to stop you buying a headache. 1. Think about what you want to use your boat or yacht for also the weather you will encounter all year round. Is the boat or yacht going to be sheltered when it is in dock. 2.When you have decided what type you want do you buy new or used . A used boat or yacht will have all the extras but you might have to pay for repairs and maintenance at a later date. 3. A new boat or yacht will come with a guarantee but depreciates in value the moment it hits the water. Ebay is great place to buy or bid for a boat and thats why I put this website together . If you see a boat you like just bid on it as it is a direct link to ebay . 4. When you are checking the boat out its not much different to buying a car you want to know how old it is how many hours on the engine has it got a service record is there any damage to the hull or check if the propeller or shaft or rudder are damaged as it might have run a ground or hit rocks etc. Make sure you get to inspect below the water line. 5.Check out the throttle controls and steering any worn cables or ball joints show up. Check every fitting, lock, appliance all switches or electronics instruments, guages dont leave anything to chance this includes the radio, aerial , gps system, lights . 6.The engine Check the hoses for leaks or aging Check for oil in the bilge this can be a sign of a leak. Check the belts for cracks and dryness. Have a look at the leads on the glow plugs or spark plugs as they might run fine on a dry day but on a damp day will misfire. Find out when it was last serviced and if the man selling the boat knows what he is talking about or did he just sail once a year. |
